Dr. Shoreh Shahabi Joins Northwestern Medicine as New Chief of Gynecologic Oncology

CHICAGO, May 22, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Northwestern Medicine welcomes Shohreh Shahabi, MD, as the new chief of the division of gynecologic oncology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She has also assumed a leadership role as a member of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University's executive committee and the Clinical Cancer Center's executive council.

Shahabi, a noted surgeon, researcher, teacher and author, previously worked as system chair of the department of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive biology at Western Connecticut Health Network's Danbury and New Milford Hospitals, chair of the Reproductive Tumor Biology Research Laboratory at Danbury Hospital Biomedical Research Institute, and a clinical professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Vermont School of Medicine.

Shahabi earned her medical degree and completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology from the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium, and earned several subspecialty diplomas, including in breast surgery, from the University of Paris V, René Descartes. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology and a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Yale School of Medicine. She then completed a subspecialty fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

The author of numerous publications, Shahabi was appointed to the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics Board of Directors in 2014, and is a member of the Society Gynecologic Oncology, the New England Association of Gynecologic Oncologists, and the American College of Obstetrics and Oncology.
