Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET(R) Products Now at Over 1,300 GNC Stores and GNC.com

MC LEAN, Va., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Siegal's Direct Nutritionals, LLC, today announced that its Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET® brand cookies are now available at more than 1,300 GNC stores in the United States. The products arrived at just over 600 stores in August and sales have exceeded DSDN's projections. The company also said that, since its chocolate and oatmeal raisin cookies are currently among the top selling products in the Diet Support category on GNC.com, next week it will begin supplying all flavors of Dr. Sanford Siegal's famous cookies and shake mixes, and his latest book, Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet Book: How a Doctor and His Cookie Helped 500,000 People Lose Weight Fast (2009, Hyde Park Publishing Ltd., 320 pages, ISBN 978-0-9822728-3-19999), for sale on GNC's web site.

Sanford Siegal, D.O., M.D., conceived the idea of a diet based on a hunger-satisfying cookie in the early 1970s while writing a book about natural substances in foods that suppress hunger. He decided to engineer a food specifically to help his patients to stick to the low-calorie diet that he advocates.  Dr. Siegal produced a formula for a proprietary mixture of amino acids that resulted from combining certain food substances and baked it into cookies that he gave to a few patients.
