LOS ANGELES, March 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Silvio A. (Alan) Del Castillo D.O., a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and the Primary Care Lead physician for Lakeside Community Healthcare, was selected by the American Osteopathic Association to speak at a congressional briefing. Dr. Del Castillo gave a briefing on the innovative form of treatment called "Value Based Care". His testimony revealed how Value Based Care is implemented and how it affects the lives of patients. Dr. Del Castillo spoke in front of nearly 100 Congressional staffers and a handful of Congressmen and Congresswomen. The briefing took place on Wednesday, March 1st, 2017, in Washington, D.C.
Value Based Care is a form of medical care that is designed around patients. With Value Based Care, doctors and hospitals are paid for keeping their patients healthy and improving the health of patients who have chronic health issues in an evidence-based, cost-effective manner. Unlike the fee-for-service method where doctors and hospitals are paid based on the number of medical services they provide like tests and procedures. Under fee-for-service, payment is issued regardless if the patients' health improves. Value Based Care is beneficial for patients because they will receive safe, appropriate and effective care with continuing results at a reasonable cost.
"As a practicing doctor of osteopathic medicine, earning the chance to communicate the importance of Value Based Care to the federal government is an honor," said Dr. Silvio Del Castillo. "This briefing provides an opportunity for the government to understand that Value Based Care is a critical aspect of maintaining patients' health and reducing the amount of emergency room visits."
Dr. Del Castillo was joined by a variety of healthcare experts including: the president of the American College of Physicians, the president of American Academy of Family Physicians and the chair of The Farley Center.
"Dr. Del Castillo goes above and beyond for his patients," said Jody Knox, Senior Vice President of Medical Group Operations for Lakeside Community Healthcare. "It is a great privilege to have a physician on staff who is recognized as an expert and able to represent his field at such a high level."
Dr. Del Castillo is well-versed in Family Medicine and treats patients five years of age and older. He completed his medical degree at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California and served his residency at the University of California, Davis and San Joaquin General Hospital. Dr. Del Castillo is passionate about working with his patients and getting them back on the road to better health.
