Dr. Thomas Pane Posts New Video and Blog about Post Bariatric Surgery Options

As he explains in the new video, morbidly obese patients who do not see results with dieting and exercise often opt for bariatric surgery as a last resort.
In many cases, Dr. Pane notes, these patients' lives are adversely affected by their excessive weight and they are at a high risk of developing heart disease, diabetes or cancer. While gastric bypass surgery can help people lose a significant amount of weight, they will often be left with excessive skin that must then be removed.
Post bariatric surgery is performed by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Pane to remove the excessive skin that can interfere with daily activities such as walking, exercise or to improve appearance.
As Dr. Pane notes in the video and blog, body contouring is one way to remove excess skin and fatty deposits after bariatric surgery. This combines liposuction with excisional body lifting.
Excisional surgery is another option for post bariatric surgery. In this procedure, an incision is made and concealed as much as possible. The skin is tightened, re-draped and the excess skin is then removed.
"Depending on the extent of your surgery, your procedure can take from 30 minutes to several hours," Dr. Pane said, adding that it can be performed under local anesthesia, which numbs the area, combined with a sedative to make the patient drowsy, or he may use an epidural block instead.
"For more extensive liposuction and/or excisional surgery, a general anesthesia may be used."
Depending on the amount of needed correction, Dr. Pane often performs multiple post bariatric procedures.
