FORT WORTH, Texas, Sept. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Room in the Inn founder Fr. Charles Strobel will travel to Fort Worth Wednesday, October 14 to train and inspire the flock of North Texas congregations that open their houses of worship to shelter the homeless in the ministry known as Room in the Inn.
Through Room in the Inn, people experiencing homelessness stay overnight at host churches, where they share food and fellowship with church volunteers. The flagship program, Room in the Inn Nashville, is the model for similar initiatives in 20 other communities in the United States and Canada, including Fort Worth and Tarrant County. More than 20 local congregations partner with the DRC, formerly Day Resource Center for the Homeless, to offer Room in the Inn hospitality in the hottest and coldest months of the year.
Fr. Strobel will be joined by Rachel Hester, executive director of Room in the Inn Nashville, in two events Wednesday, October 14 in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth, 800 W. 5th St. in downtown Fort Worth.
Events are:
1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.—Fr. Strobel and Ms. Rachel Hester lead a Room in the Inn Master Class on starting or sustaining Room in the Inn hospitality programs.
7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.—An Evening with Fr. Charles Strobel & Friends, featuring conversation, coffee and dessert with Fr. Strobel and Ms. Hester.
Pre-registration is required. Cost is $15 per person for the afternoon class, $10 per person for the evening event. Register at http://bit.ly/FrStrobelFW.
Organizers hope Fr. Strobel's visit will raise awareness of Room in the Inn in North Texas and help sustain and grow the hospitality ministry here. Events are coordinated by the DRC and are made possible by the generous support of First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth.
