Awards recognize continued excellence in healthcare packaging initiatives that utilize Tyvek® material to help drive and promote sustainable innovation
WILMINGTON, Del., Oct. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- DuPont (NYSE: DD) announced the winners of its global awards program, the Tyvek® Sustainable Healthcare Packaging Awards, during the Medical Packaging Conference (MPC) hosted by DuPont September 30 - October 2, 2026, in Boston. Now in its third year, this awards program recognizes leaders across the healthcare industry who are embracing and driving sustainability throughout the packaging lifecycle.
The three 2026 winners, who utilize healthcare packaging made with DuPont™ Tyvek® material and whose efforts show a significant focus on sustainability in the three award categories, are:
Packaging (re)Design: Plastic Ingenuity
Plastic Ingenuity developed a new ready-to-use (RTU) tub and lid platform made from recycled PuraForm™ 134 polyester, offering an alternative to injection-molded polystyrene. Paired with Tyvek®, the design cuts plastic use by 15 percent and avoids 217 metric tons of CO2e per 1 million units, while staying recyclable. This helps manufacturers implement a solution made from materials that generate fewer particulates while providing a more sustainable solution.
Operational Efficiencies: Coligroup Spa
Coligroup redesigned traditional suture packaging to eliminate an entire layer of material while preserving full sterility. Relying solely on an aluminum inner pouch fitted with a strip made of Tyvek®, the solution lets sterilizing gas fully penetrate the package, removing the need for a second outer layer. This cuts material, labor and sterilization costs by up to 35 percent.
Sustainability In-Use: Nelipak Healthcare Packaging
Nelipak Healthcare Packaging developed Ecovate™ headerbags, an all-polyethylene laminate combining mono-axially oriented PE (MOPE) with Tyvek® with Renewable Attribution, replacing the mixed-material laminates common across the ready-to-fill/use (RTF/U) market. The mono-material structure is certified recyclable by Institut Cyclos-HTP and could lower the product's greenhouse gas footprint up to 40 percent when including end of life recycling, helping the growing RTF/U market advance packaging circularity.
"This year's winners demonstrate that sustainable healthcare packaging progress is happening through practical design choices, operational improvements and scalable material innovations," said Lesley Aulick, global business director, DuPont™ Tyvek® Roll Goods. "We are honored Tyvek® has a role in these initiatives and are committed to continued advancement of circularity, reducing environmental impact and supporting sustainability goals – all while protecting products and helping to ensure patient safety."
The Tyvek® Sustainable Healthcare Packaging Awards program further supports the Tyvek® Healthcare Packaging team's work to help advance DuPont's global strategy of working across the supply chain to help enable a more circular economy.
The awards program is open to any medical device and/or pharmaceutical manufacturer, sterile packaging manufacturer, healthcare facility, university, material recovery facility, or other healthcare company focused on sustainable packaging made with DuPont™ Tyvek® material. The next application period is expected to open in 2027, and more information on how to apply as well as current and previous winners can be found on the Tyvek® Sustainable Healthcare Packaging Awards website.
