ONTARIO, Calif., Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Early registration is now open for Ontario International Airport's (ONT) 5th annual 5K at the Runway, one of the Inland Empire's most unique community events, taking place Saturday, February 6, 2027.
The award-winning 5K at the Runway offers runners and walkers a rare opportunity to experience the National Guard hangar area adjacent to ONT's runways, bringing together aviation, fitness and patriotism in a one-of-a-kind setting—all while supporting the USO at ONT. More than 2,000 runners, walkers, sponsors and supporters participated in the 2026 event, helping establish it as a signature annual fundraiser for the airport and the region.
A portion of event proceeds benefit the USO at ONT, the third-largest USO airport center in the nation, supporting thousands of service members and their families each year as they travel through Ontario. This year's 5K raised nearly $83,000 for the USO at ONT, lifting the total raised during the first four years to $168,771.
"What started as a unique way to bring our community onto the airfield has grown into something much bigger," said Atif Elkadi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario International Airport Authority. "The 5K at the Runway has become a tradition that reflects so much of what ONT is about—community, connection and bringing people together. We're proud to serve as your airport, and we're especially proud that the excitement surrounding this event translates into meaningful support for the USO and the service members and families it serves."
Early registration for the 2027 event is $50 for the 5K and $20 for the 1-mile Family Walk. Fees increase to $55 and $25 after December 13, and to $60 and $30 on race day. Registration includes a commemorative T-shirt, finisher medal and a free beer for participants 21 and older. Active-duty military members and veterans receive a 50% discount using promo code THANKYOU.
The 5K will begin at 8 a.m. from the National Guard hangar on the south side of the airfield, followed by the 1-mile family walk/run at 9:30 a.m.
From 8:30-11 a.m., the celebration continues with a free Community Event featuring food trucks, entertainment, vendor booths and family-friendly activities. The event will also showcase ONT and its airport partners, giving attendees an opportunity to learn more about the people and organizations that help keep Southern California's Ontario International Airport moving.
Registration for the 5th annual event comes as ONT celebrates its Decade of Local Control, with a formal Gala set for November 6. Since returning to local ownership in 2016, the popular Southern California gateway has seen passenger volumes soar past 7 million per year.
