Approximately one-third of individuals over 65 have significant fall episodes each year, and the risk increases proportionately with age. In post-acute settings, such falls may have major implications, due to financial penalties imposed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on hospitals that readmit released patients.
