Bishop, Jr., MD, FAED, CEDS, Founding Partner and Medical Director of Outpatient Services and Program Development at Denver-based Eating Recovery Center, has been awarded the CEDS Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Bishop was selected as the recipient of this prestigious honor in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the field of eating disorder treatment, as well as his many years of leadership and contributions to the success, goals and mission of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals Foundation, Inc. (iaedp™). The award was presented to Dr. Bishop at the recent iaedp™ Symposium 2014 in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Dr. Bishop has more than 30 years of experience in the treatment of eating disorders.  In 2008, he founded Eating Recovery Center, an international eating disorder treatment center offering the full spectrum of care for female and male adults, adolescents and children, and served as Medical Director of Adult Services for five years before transitioning into his current medical leadership role. Prior to his leadership of Eating Recovery Center, Dr. Bishop oversaw several eating disorder treatment programs, served as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Director of Undergraduate Education in Psychiatry at the Medical College of Georgia, and completed research in psychosomatic medicine, psychotropic medications and eating disorders.  He has authored numerous articles, lectures widely on eating disorders, psychotropic medications and bariatric surgery evaluation protocol, and is sought after as a consultant and advisor on bariatric psychological assessment.

Dr. Bishop served on the Board of Directors of iaedp™ since 1993 and is a past President.  He has been a member of the Academy for Eating Disorders since its inception in 1993, and currently serves as an Academy Fellow. Dr. Bishop has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Eating Disorders Journal of Treatment and Prevention and has been an editorial reviewer for the American Journal of Psychiatry, as well as other professional journals.
