MADISON, Wis., Dec. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- EatStreet and the Meals On Wheels Association of America announce today their "Serve Up A Smile" program to help communities across America fight senior isolation and hunger.
A growing number of Americans are ordering delivery and takeout food online. EatStreet, an online & mobile food ordering startup, now promises to do more than facilitate these orders. As diners order food through EatStreet's website and app, EatStreet will support Meals On Wheels Association of America with a minimum annual donation of $50,000.
EatStreet CEO & co-founder Matt Howard explained, "While we've already pledged a donation, we ultimately hope to get our diners volunteering at one of their local Meals on Wheels partners. It's really easy to get involved. Our team is delivering meals on a weekly basis here in Madison, and it's a great feeling to see the smiles at every door."
The Meals On Wheels Association of America is the oldest and largest organization supporting the national network of more than 5,000 Senior Nutrition Programs that operate in all 50 states. With the help of 2 million volunteers, these programs deliver the nutritious meals, warm smiles, and safety checks that enable 2.5 million seniors to remain healthy, safe and living independently in their own homes each year. The "Serve Up A Smile" program encourages EatStreet diners to support these efforts in their community.
"We needed a partner that could grow with us, and one that had a strong commitment to supporting their cause in communities across the nation," said Howard. "The Meals On Wheels Association of America is the perfect fit, and we're excited to join them in keeping seniors healthy and smiling."
"EatStreet's dedicated efforts will help us to support local Meals on Wheels programs across the country as they deliver the nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks that enable America's seniors to live independently in their own homes, where they want to be," said Ellie Hollander, President and CEO, Meals On Wheels Association of America. "Together, we're committed to serve up a smile for seniors in need."
