Neilson Ratings recent survey showed that roughly 40% of tablet and Smartphones users in the U.S. currently use their devices daily while watching TV. According to the survey, email was one of the top activity for both men and women during television programming and commercial breaks, with women reporting engaging in social networking more than men, while men checked sports scores more often.

The survey noted that while viewers may be splitting attention between two, and sometimes three screens, 19% of Smartphones and tablet owners indicated they had searched for product information, and 13% searched for coupons or deals while the television was on.
