EcoHealth Alliance Selects Colgate-Palmolive To Honor At Annual Benefit

NEW YORK, March 23, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- EcoHealth Alliance, a nonprofit that focuses on local conservation and global health issues, announced today that it will honor Colgate-Palmolive Company at the organization's upcoming annual benefit – "Beyond the Horizon, an Evening to Benefit EcoHealth Alliance" – on April 14, 2016. EcoHealth Alliance commends the leadership Colgate-Palmolive has shown in addressing sustainability and environmental issues.

The annual fundraising event will be held at Guastavino's, located at 409 East 59th Street in New York City. The event will begin at 6:30pm with a cocktail reception and silent auction followed by an award ceremony, seated dinner, and live auction. Proceeds from the benefit will support EcoHealth Alliance's global public health and local conservation programs around the world.

This year, EcoHealth Alliance's Annual Benefit theme will reflect its current work in South Africa. EcoHealth Alliance scientists and partners are currently monitoring a newly emerging disease called Rift Valley fever (RVF). Transmitted by mosquitos, Rift Valley fever can have devastating effects on livestock, very often in parts of the world that depend predominantly on animal husbandry and subsistence farming for survival. Originally limited to Sub-Saharan Africa, the disease has spread to Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The nature of RVF requires a holistic, multi-layered approach—evaluating links between weather, climate, soil, mosquito and susceptible host characteristics, and human behavior in at-risk populations.
