Ecological Scientist Pens Picture Book About the Wonders of the Snake World
SEATTLE, Sept. 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- After studying snakes for many years, Deborah A. Hutchinson, PhD, used her research and photographs from Japan and the US to develop a rhyming storybook, intended for ages 3-7, that explores various species of snakes and their traits. Colorsss is a new release in juvenile nonfiction from Peanut Butter Publishing.
Colorsss teaches children about colors, how they appear in nature, and why animals exist in such a wide range of colors and patterns. When people imagine a snake, they might picture something brown or green, but snakes can be blue or even pink, which makes them ideal subjects for teaching children about many different colors.
The book's bonus pages serve to educate children and adults about the various ways that snakes defend themselves from predators, such as by using colors, patterns, venoms, and poisons. The author also explains the difference between venomous and poisonous snakes, and gives an example of one species that is both venomous and poisonous.
Deborah Hutchinson earned her PhD in Ecological Sciences and she has a lifelong passion for conservation and sustainability. These factors are what motivated her to have Colorsss printed on FSC-certified paper with vegetable-based inks. Colorsss also features biodegradable lamination, making the entire book compostable.
Colorsss is available through several online retailers and distributors including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Pathway Book Service, Baker & Taylor, and Ingram. Additionally, the author is giving away five autographed copies of her book during the month of September via goodreads.
Colorsss is a wonderful tool for families and educators of young children to educate through storytelling, as evidenced by multiple positive reviews, including a 5-star review by Readers' Favorite. More details on the book, including trade reviews, are available on the author's website.
