LANDOVER, Md., April 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Everyone's a winner when they join the fight with all participating Giant Food stores throughout Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia and Delaware for a special fundraising day on Saturday, April 28, 2012, to benefit children's cancer research.

Several popular brands of single-serve ice cream cups, shakes and smoothies, including those by Haagen-Dazs® ice cream, EDY'S® SLOW CHURNED® light ice cream, and SKINNY COW® low fat ice cream are participating in Giant Food's Triple Winner fundraiser to benefit the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center and The Children's Cancer Foundation.  Customers who make a $1 contribution will receive a free single-serve ice cream cup.  When customers make a $3 contribution, they will also receive a limited edition Triple Winner keepsake.

Giant Food will donate 100% of the proceeds raised during this event to Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center and The Children's Cancer Foundation for children's cancer research and treatment. In addition, Nestle Dreyer's Ice Cream Company will donate $.05 for every single-serve cup, shake or smoothie sold between April 13 and June 7, 2012 with no limitation on the amount donated during this timeframe.

"Since 2006, Nestle Edy's Ice Cream Company has been dedicated to helping raise money for children's cancer research with the help of caring people through the partnership with Giant Food. We raised $186,000 last year, and we hope to raise even more this year with the community's help.  We urge everyone to come in to their local participating Giant Food store on April 28 and join us in the fight against childhood cancer by donating through Triple Winner," said Roger Weisbeck for Nestle Edy's Ice Cream Company.

Now in its 8th year, the Triple Winner program helps support pediatric cancer care and research through Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center and The Children's Cancer Foundation. Customers who give a $1 contribution* at Giant Food registers receive a Triple Winner scratch ticket and receive store products, coupons, gift cards or cash prizes up to $10,000.
