EffectiV Wins 2027 AHR Expo Innovation Award for BREEZ, Earns Software Finalist Recognition for SelectiV
Two award-recognized innovations combine precision-engineered architectural ductwork with intelligent air distribution design software, challenging conventional approaches to HVAC engineering.
BLAINVILLE, QC, Oct. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- EffectiV, a Canadian manufacturer of high-performance architectural HVAC diffusers, has been named the winner of the 2027 AHR Expo Innovation Award in the Ventilation category for its BREEZ Architectural Duct Diffusers. The company also earned finalist recognition in the Software category for SelectiV, its free, browser-based air distribution design platform.
The dual recognition highlights EffectiV's approach to rethinking one of HVAC engineering's most fundamental challenges: how conditioned air is distributed throughout a building to achieve occupant comfort, indoor air quality and energy efficiency.
The AHR Expo Innovation Awards, co-sponsored by AHR Expo, ASHRAE and AHRI, recognize advancements in HVACR technology. Entries are evaluated by independent ASHRAE member judges based on innovation, application, value and market impact.
BREEZ: When the Duct Becomes the Diffuser
Traditional HVAC systems transport conditioned air through ductwork before delivering it into occupied spaces through separate diffusers. BREEZ challenges that convention by transforming exposed ductwork into a precision-engineered air distribution system.
Its laser-cut metal construction incorporates customized perforation patterns that control the direction, distribution and behavior of airflow. Each system is engineered around the room's geometry and heating and cooling requirements, promoting effective air mixing, thermal comfort and low-noise operation.
Unlike conventional fabric duct systems, BREEZ distributes air directly through engineered openings in its metal surface, offering the potential for substantially lower static pressure requirements and reduced fan energy consumption.
Available in diameters from 8 to 70 inches, with customizable architectural finishes, BREEZ combines the visual appeal of exposed ductwork with sophisticated airflow engineering.
SelectiV: Bringing Room-Level Airflow Engineering to Every Designer
EffectiV's second recognized innovation, SelectiV, addresses a longstanding limitation of conventional diffuser selection: performance is typically evaluated using catalog data, without fully accounting for how air behaves inside the actual room.
SelectiV allows HVAC engineers to create three-dimensional rooms, position diffusers and visualize predicted airflow patterns under heating and cooling conditions. Its physics-informed calculation engine combines manufacturer performance data with established air distribution principles, bridging the gap between conventional product selection and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
Its Auto-Design technology goes further, evaluating thousands to hundreds of thousands of design possibilities to identify optimized configurations. For BREEZ, engineers can construct complete duct layouts and automatically optimize perforation patterns for individual duct sections, considering airflow interactions, room geometry and thermal buoyancy.
The platform also supports variable and constant air volume (VAV and CAV) operating conditions, enabling designs to be evaluated across changing airflow rates and supply temperatures.
SelectiV is available free of charge to HVAC engineers and designers, making sophisticated room-level air distribution analysis accessible without specialized CFD software.
A New Philosophy: Design the Room First
Together, BREEZ and SelectiV embody EffectiV's Room First philosophy: instead of designing air distribution around equipment selected upstream, start with the conditions required inside the occupied space, then work backward to the HVAC system.
"Air distribution has an enormous influence on comfort, indoor air quality and energy consumption, yet its performance is too often treated as an afterthought," said Frank Godbout, President of EffectiV. "With BREEZ, we're rethinking how air is delivered into a room. With SelectiV, we're rethinking how engineers design that delivery. These two innovations are part of the same vision: make better air distribution easier to design, easier to verify and ultimately more accessible across the industry."
The recognition comes as EffectiV expands manufacturing at its new facility in Blainville, Quebec, and introduces its technologies to a broader North American market.
Both BREEZ and SelectiV will be showcased at AHR Expo 2027, January 25–27 in Chicago, at Booth N1231.
