Electric Lightwave Creates Spectrum Offer Across Western United States

VANCOUVER, Wash., May 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Electric Lightwave™, an Integra™ company and provider of fiber-based, carrier-grade networking, communications and technology solutions has introduced a customizable managed solution that delivers the advantages of owned fiber without the costs or management obligations. Integrating Spectrum technology and the company's path-diverse metro and long-haul fiber routes, Electric Lightwave's extensive network management capabilities allow data center, content provider, government, and enterprise customers throughout the western United States to quickly scale network capacity, at increments of 100G, without the operational or financial burden of having to manage the infrastructure themselves.

Now, Electric Lightwave customers can employ a fully owned-and-operated fiber-optic network with Spectrum technology to virtually own a private network. Customers gain the flexibility to dictate how fast their network is upgraded based on their unique needs, with significant savings of initial capital and recurring operational expenditures compared to dark fiber or traditional wavelength offerings, an ideal solution for customers who need multi-terabyte transport without the commitment to dark fiber.

With Ciena's 6500 Packet-Optical Platform and WaveLogic coherent optics, Spectrum technology provides the capacity to meet the increasing web-scale demand, as well as the intelligence and agility to adapt to unpredictable service growth. Ciena's WaveLogic 3 coherent chipset enables express 100G connectivity on ultra-long haul links, for distances up to 2500km without regeneration. This technology takes advantage of Electric Lightwave's diverse, low-latency network routes with direct access along dense corridors to offer customers a unique solution and superior user experience.

"In today's always-on digital economy, many businesses rely on the network to conduct transactions 24/7; without it, business can come to a standstill. With the Spectrum offer, we're able to provide a customizable network solution that meets the criteria of high speeds and durability along with the low latency that our diverse set of customers expect," said Dan Stoll, President of Electric Lightwave. "Leveraging Ciena's packet-optical technology and expertise in managing and deploying powerful terabit-level networks across the globe means our customers can focus on their core business while we take care of their network growth needs."

"Ciena's coherent solutions deliver new levels of terabit capacities and efficiencies to help operators satisfy user's demands in this new, web-scale world. Spectrum fulfills what many of today's content providers and enterprises have been looking for – a custom network that can quickly respond to unforeseen, high-capacity bandwidth demand. Spectrum affords customers the ability to manage spiking traffic requirements by reserving bandwidth on a city-to-city basis for datacenter to datacenter traffic," said Jason Phipps, General Manager and VP of North America Sales at Ciena.
