ATLANTA, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ - It's important for health care professionals to begin the new year with a clear understanding of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act and how its incentives can help clinicians.
Part of the 2009 economic stimulus package, the HITECH Act provides more than $19 billion dollars in incentives to encourage the use of electronic health record (EHR) systems among physicians and hospitals. $17 billion will be used for incentive payments to physicians and hospitals that participate in Medicare and Medicaid programs. These incentives will be issued to current users and new adopters of certified EHR systems who are able to demonstrate "meaningful use."
In an upcoming webinar, Elekta invites members of the cancer care team including oncologists, administrators, and nurses to learn more about how meaningful use is defined and how an oncology practice can take advantage of the opportunities available under the HITECH Act.
"There has been extensive research done to show that utilizing an EHR would serve to improve patient care, increase patient safety, and simplify compliance in the U.S. healthcare system," says Sima Aziz, Business Line Manager for Elekta Impac Software who will be hosting the webinars.
Elekta's HITECH Act webinars will take place Wednesday, January 13 at noon EST (9 a.m. PST) and Friday, January 15 at noon EST (9 a.m. PST).
