Health Executives are Making an Impact with Better Data   
Eliza's predictive engagement metrics allow health executives to better model data related to consumer behaviors like retention, net promotion or likelihood to participate in clinical services.  Armed with this intelligent data, Eliza and its Medicare Advantage customers, for example, are implementing refined targeting and messaging strategies to drive behaviors, positively impact outcomes and multiply the return on their health engagement management investments.

Data and Analysis Focused on STAR Metrics  
Eliza's intelligent data delivers deep insight into population-wide engagement levels and identifies where to focus efforts for the greatest impact.  These insights are used to benchmark performance by engagement and apply population findings to boost outcomes.

Our approach to improving STAR measures lets us not only capture members' responses, such as intent to have a recommended screening, but also to use our algorithmic scoring to add a unique dimension of understanding such as which Medicare Advantage members are likely to take care of themselves, as well as members likely to leave the health plan next year.  We apply those insights in actionable ways to influence better outcomes, financial results and most importantly improve lives."

Consumer Health Engagement Management ROI   
Given the heavy weighting of diabetes care on STAR measures, and the prevalence of diabetes among seniors (20% plus), much of Eliza's Medicare Advantage-related outreach focuses on increasing diabetes screening rates as well as medication adherence among Medicare Advantage members. (According to a study published in Health Affairs, medication adherence by the nation's diabetes population could save an estimated $8.3 billion in annual healthcare costs. Researchers suggested that $3.93 billion was in adherence for Medicare patients alone.)  Since Medicare Advantage plans' profit is driven largely by accurate risk scores and the effectiveness of their care management programs -- improving adherence rates for the sizable diabetes population has a significant impact on plans' overall profit, as well as the health of their members.  In fact, Eliza has concluded that the Company's health engagement management solutions, when tailored to address these challenges, have the potential to help its current Medicare Advantage customers save more than 500 million dollars per year by increasing adherence to behaviors that reduce healthcare costs, while also improving a plan's STAR bonus potential.

Eliza's Business Intelligence also recently revealed the following sample of insights about Medicare Advantage members with diabetes:

  • This population is – on the whole – less clinically engaged than younger populations with diabetes
  • Members with diabetes and low-clinical engagement scores (in the lower third) are up to 80% less likely to obtain clinical diabetes screenings, such as HbA1C, LDL or retinal eye exams
  • High engagement and higher adherence go hand in hand -- increasing engagement rates leads to an increase in adherence rates and overall plan satisfaction
  • Those that are non-adherent tend to:
    1. Identify themselves as caregivers
    2. Approach their health decisions from the standpoint of cost-savings
    3. Not think about their health on a day-to-day basis
    4. Take no immediate action when they get new information about their health
    5. Be most concerned about financial security, and less concerned about building relationships or being healthy for the long term
  • Eliza engagement with this population yielded as much as a 76% increase in HbA1C testing and almost 3x the doctor visits in comparison with the control group
