Elsevier and the Association for Nursing Professional Development Announce Co-Development Agreement

Online Course to Help New Nurses Transition to the Clinical Setting 

Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, and the Association for Professional Development (ANPD), the leading association focused on advancing the specialty practice of nursing professional development, announced today that they are collaborating to develop a cutting-edge eLearning course to help nursing professional development specialists successfully transition new nurses to the acute-care, medical-surgical setting.

"Our collaboration with ANPD is timely in light of the rising registered nurse (RN) turnover rate, especially among medical-surgical nurses," said Cindy Tryniszewski, RN, MSN, Executive Director, Clinical eLearning, Elsevier Clinical Solutions. "Increasing RN turnover has been linked to a decrease in patient satisfaction, a decrease in staff morale, contributing to inconsistent patient care, and imposing a financial burden on the organization.

Nurses leave an organization for several reasons, including job dissatisfaction from work overload, stress, shortened orientations, and poor physician-nurse relationships. "Our new product will arm nurses with the professional and clinical information and skills to promote their confidence, competence, and job satisfaction," Tryniszewski said.

Development is underway, and the course is scheduled to launch in late 2015. The course will be rich in interactive elements to promote critical thinking and the application of knowledge in the real world clinical situations. Additionally, nursing professional development specialists will have access to several targeted resources to help implement an effective transition program.
