Elsevier Announces the Winner of the 4th Ahmed Zewail Prize in Molecular Sciences

Professor Noel S. Hush from the University of Sydney, Australia rewarded for his outstanding contributions to electron transfer processes
Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, and the editors of the leading international journal Chemical Physics Letters are pleased to announce that the 4th Ahmed Zewail Prize in Molecular Sciences has been awarded to Professor Noel S. Hush from The University of Sydney, Australia for his outstanding contributions to electron transfer processes.
Professor Hush developed theories with broad applications for predicting and explaining electron transfer processes. His elegant theories take into account both solvent reorganization and the inner structure of a molecular complex. He also explained how electrons transfer between species covalently linked by bridging molecules. His work has had wide impact in fields ranging from corrosion to solar energy to photosynthesis.
Nobel Laureate Professor Ahmed Zewail, in whose name the Prize is honoured, remarked, "Noel has made profound contributions to molecular science. Over six decades, he continues his creative work on various frontiers, from electron transfer theory to molecular electronics. I am delighted that he has been awarded the prize."

About Professor Noel S. Hush
Noel Sydney Hush is Emeritus Professor of the School of Molecular and Microbial Biosciences at the University of Sydney. He has been at the University for over thirty years and was its founder of the Theoretical Chemistry discipline. Before arriving at the University of Sydney, Hush worked in England at the universities of Manchester and Bristol. He has also held numerous prestigious visiting scientist posts at universities in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Noel Hush is author of well over two hundred publications and is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Royal Society (UK). He was appointed a Commander Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for his services in 1993.

About the Ahmed Zewail Prize in Molecular Sciences
The Ahmed Zewail Prize in Molecular Sciences is a biennial award sponsored by Elsevier in collaboration with the international journal Chemical Physics Letters. Named for the journal's Honorary Advisory Editor Professor Zewail, who received the 1999 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, the Prize is awarded to individual scientists who have made significant and creative contributions of a fundamental nature to any of the disciplines of molecular sciences. The winner's research activities may cover theoretical and/or experimental aspects of the studies in all phases of matter and biological systems.
