The Utility Partner of the Year award category has been introduced in 2018, to recognise the vital contribution that suppliers, contractors and other partners make to the utilities sector. Its aim is to celebrate businesses who help the UK's utilities deliver outstanding service to their customers.

Since its foundation in 1996, Water Direct has supported the majority of the UK's water utility companies, and more recently, has worked proactively to build relationships with newly founded water retailers following the opening of the water market in 2017.
