Emily Griffith High School Welcomes Cyclists As They Roll Through Denver
The REAL Ride: 3 MONTHS - 5,000 MILES - COAST TO COAST
DENVER, Aug. 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Five cyclists are riding across the United States on trails and dirt paths to raise money and awareness for off-track high school students – including Emily Griffith High School.
Last month, five cyclists turned their backs to the Pacific and began an epic 3-month, 5,000 mile, off-road bike ride to honor high school students across the country whose journey to a diploma is more challenging than the norm. The riders are on a road less traveled – avoiding pavement whenever possible.
"Our original route didn't include dead-end dirt paths and forest fires," says REAL Ride founder Cris Rothfuss. "But, we did know every day would be a challenge, and that's proving to be an understatement."
Heat, fire, and extremely rugged terrain have hampered the team; they have been forced to re-route and double back numerous times. However, their motivation to keep pedaling will be reinvigorated by the students they will meet on Friday at their Denver Roll-Out ceremony.
"Our students face heavy challenges in their personal lives. We provide flexible scheduling, small class sizes and social-emotional services to serve as a springboard…and we're grateful the REAL Ride is bringing awareness to our student and their unique pathways to success," says Haley Todd, Assistant Principal at EGHS in Denver.
Through it's partnership with Emily Griffith and four similar high schools across the country, the REAL Ride reminds us that opportunity and access to education are not just important, but that it is the cornerstone to securing our next generation's dreams.
