Employees Around the World Reduce Safety Risks by Using the Norwegian App 'HSEQ'
BERGEN, Norway, Sept. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Only four months after its release, the Norwegian smartphone app "HSEQ" has become a worldwide success. The app is used to report incidents and improvement proposals related to health, safety and quality (HSEQ) and is developed by the Norwegian company Mellora (www.mellora.no).
Available on iPhone and Android
Employees in companies located in countries such as USA, South Korea, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia and Norway are using the app daily to improve their companies' work processes and products. The distribution between users of iPhone and Android show that about 60 percent of the downloads are made to an Android phone, while 40 percent goes to the iPhone. The app can be found in a simplified free version with commercials as well as a full version that costs a dollar.
Customized versions
- "Companies from all over the world contact us daily to check up on the opportunity to have their own customized version of the app," says CEO of Mellora, Trond Hansen. "Our programmers are currently working on several exciting projects, and recently we published the first two of many special versions to the Dutch company Mammoet with 4000 employees worldwide and one app to the Norwegian oil service company Add Energy," he continues.
An unmet need
Trond Hansen says that the methods for reporting incidents related to quality and safety has stood still for too long, and that was the reason why the app was developed.
- "As an expert in the fields of quality and safety, I have long seen the need for a tool like 'HSEQ' but I had never really thought that it was I myself who would be the first in the world to launch such a product," says Hansen. Hansen says that the process from drawing board to finished product has been long, and that there has been significant changes made to how the first version of the app was.
Reasonable improvements
Mellora has deliberately chosen to build their business model around the "Keep It Simple" principle. The app is made with a simple user interface, allowing the tool to be attractive to use for everyone in every company across the world.
- "My nearly 20 years in business has taught me a lot, but among the most important is probably that we so-called HSEQ-people can be a little 'weird breed' that complicates quality and safety," says Hansen.
Mellora's goal is to change that trend. Bring back the focus on what is important, namely to involve everyone in an organization in the important HSEQ work. Let everyone help improve the companies they work for and to reduce the risk of accidents to occur. Only when all employees are included, it can be said that the HSEQ work functions satisfactorily.
- "The HSEQ-app shall be to contribute to this facilitation, neither more nor less," ends Trond Hansen.
