Entertainment News Alert: Verdi Productions Next Featured Film, 'BLEED FOR THIS' Heads into Pre-production - Filming to Begin in Rhode Island on November 10th

EAST GREENWICH, R.I., June 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --  East Greenwich, RI film company Verdi Productions, is pleased to announce that its next feature film 'BLEED FOR THIS' is now in pre-production.

BLEED FOR THIS tells the true-life story of five-time world champion boxer and Rhode Island native, Vinny Pazienza ("Vinny Paz"), who was injured and left with a broken neck in a near-fatal car accident at the peak of his career. After months of recovery and against doctors' orders, Paz returned to the gym under Mike Tyson's former trainer Kevin Rooney, and made a triumphant return to the ring just over a year later.

Miles Teller (THE SPECTACULAR NOW, WHIPLASH, THE FANTASTIC FOUR) stars as Paz opposite Golden Globe nominee Aaron Eckhart (OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN, THE DARK KNIGHT) as Rooney. BLEED FOR THIS, written and to be directed by Ben Younger (BOILER ROOM, PRIME) is executive produced by Academy Award-winner Martin Scorsese (THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, THE DEPARTED).  Younger will also produce with Oscar-winner Bruce Cohen (AMERICAN BEAUTY, SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK), Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff (THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, upcoming SILENCE), Noah Kraft (LOOSIES), and Verdi Production's Chad A. Verdi (LOOSIES, THE OPPOSITE SEX, upcoming SILENCE).

BLEED FOR THIS is being financed by Magna Entertainment and is executive produced by Magna's principal, Joshua Sason.  Creative Artists Agency (CAA), which packaged BLEED FOR THIS, will represent the film's domestic distribution rights with WME. The expected start date is November 10^th, 2014, with all filming taking place in Rhode Island.

Almost Mercy will head to the big screen in early 2015. Screen Media films acquired the Worldwide rights with Universal releasing the film to over 100 million homes through their VOD platform. Tom DeNucci (writer/director of Self Storage & Army of the Damned) co-wrote the script along with Bernard Dolan, and DeNucci also took on production responsibilities along with directorial duties.  

The film follows two outcasts, Jackson and Emily, who are burgeoning sociopaths on the brink of a total meltdown. They are ticking time bombs seeking revenge, but which one will unravel first?  The film focuses on a new breed of terror. A fear that is now closer to home than ever imagined.

The film stars Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees of FRIDAY THE 13TH), as Coach Elwood, a seedy, overly-aggressive gym teacher, driven by self-help books and his obsession with inflicting mental pain on his students. The film also stars genre favorite Bill Moseley (THE DEVIL'S REJECTS) playing Pastor Johnson, an overzealous preacher, who has the whole town fooled.
