Envolve and Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri Partner to Create Disability Awareness Patch
ST. LOUIS, Feb. 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Envolve, Inc., an integrated healthcare solutions company, in partnership with Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, has launched the Disability Awareness Patch Program in the spirit of inclusivity. The Disability Awareness Patch encourages Girl Scouts to gain understanding and acceptance of people's differences.
The program's curriculum uses the book Darby Boingg Has an Adventure and Meets a Person with Disabilities, which is part of an educational series developed by Chief Medical Officer of Envolve, Dr. Mary Mason.
"We saw a need to provide additional education around inclusiveness and foster conversation and understanding about disabilities," said Dr. Mason. "This patch not only allows a forum for open discussion but is the foundation for future conversations to promote understanding and reduce bullying tendencies that can begin at a young age."
The activities created in cooperation with Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri were designed to nurture the idea of an inclusive environment. Activities include poster designs of what respect means to each girl, introduction of people-first language concepts and creating a wheelchair pouch. The program also includes a parents/guardian guide for further discussions at home.
