Eric Liu Confirmed as Keynoter for the 2010 L. Patrick Mellon Mentorship Program Luncheon Scheduled for September 14th as Part of the 24th Annual NAMIC Conference

NEW YORK, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- NAMIC (National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications) today announced that Eric Liu, author, former Clinton speechwriter and creator of the Guiding Lights Network has been confirmed to deliver a keynote address at the 2010 L. Patrick Mellon Mentorship Program Luncheon scheduled for September 14th during the 24th Annual NAMIC Conference.   Taking place September 14-15, the 24th Annual NAMIC Conference will be held at the Hilton New York as part of the newly reinstated Diversity Week.  The week will feature multiple events being held by the cable industry's diversity organizations, including NAMIC, Women In Cable Telecommunications (WICT) and the Walter Kaitz Foundation.  Sponsored by the Walter Kaitz Foundation, the 2010 L. Patrick Mellon Mentorship Program Luncheon is being presented by NAMIC in partnership with WICT.  Registrants of the WICT 2010 Leadership Conference receive complimentary admission to the L. Patrick Mellon Mentorship Program Luncheon.

A dynamic leader, educator and author, Liu served as a speechwriter for President Bill Clinton and later as the president's deputy domestic policy adviser.  Liu's literary work, Guiding Lights: How to Mentor – and Find Life's Purpose is the official book of National Mentoring Month and has led to the creation of a broad civic campaign to highlight mentorship in all walks of life. Liu is also the founder of the Guiding Lights Network, a mentoring advocacy organization.  In 2002, the World Economic Forum named him one of the 100 Global Leaders of Tomorrow.

A graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School, Liu teaches at the Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington.  Formerly an executive at RealNetworks, Liu is a contributing writer for MSNBC and Slate, and is a frequent commentator on CNN. Additionally, Liu hosts NPR's "The Power of Voice" and the television program "Seattle Voices."

Established in 1993, the mentoring program was renamed in 1997 in honor of the late L. Patrick Mellon, a founding member of NAMIC.  Mellon was an ESPN executive and one of the cable industry's most respected mentors.  The goal of the L. Patrick Mellon Mentorship Program is to facilitate diversity in the communications industry by making mentors available to NAMIC members with the goal of assisting them with their career advancement strategies.  Committed, top-level industry professionals are recruited to act as mentors to NAMIC members for a nine-month period, providing support, guidance and career advice throughout the program term.
