Ericom Software Enables East Haven Connecticut Public School District Teachers to Access Pearson PowerSchool Gradebook from Chromebooks
Ericom enables In-browser access to student Information system (SIS), from Chromebooks, iPads and other devices
CLOSTER, N.J., Oct. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Ericom Software, a global leader in application access and desktop virtualization solutions, today announced that East Haven Connecticut Public School District has deployed Ericom AccessNow to provide teachers with browser-based access from Chromebooks to the district's student information system (SIS), PowerSchool Gradebook.
Approximately 300 teachers in the district use Java-based PowerSchool Gradebook to enter performance information and manage grades for 3,000 students. As the district transitioned from PCs and Macs to Chromebooks, teachers and administrators needed the capability to access PowerSchool Gradebook, a legacy Java-based application. Fully supporting HTML5 technology, AccessNow enables teachers to log-in to PowerSchool Gradebook from their Chromebooks and mobile devices.
"Chromebooks have become the standard among our teachers, providing them with the flexibility to perform tasks inside and out of the classroom," said Jim Pompano, Independent Consultant for East Haven Connecticut Public School District. "Since Chromebooks cannot be used to access Windows / Java-based apps, we needed a way to access PowerSchool Gradebook, which uses Java. AccessNow was the answer."
AccessNow enables teachers to remotely access PowerSchool Gradebook and input their grades during evenings and weekends - in time for Monday, when grades are generally due. AccessNow enables users to access Windows / Java-based applications and desktops from HTML5-compliant browsers, including Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari. As a browser-based solution, there is zero installation or maintenance on endpoint devices, freeing up time and resources for IT departments to focus on other important projects.
"Last year, we reached a tipping point where teachers abandoned the use of desktop machines," said Randel Osborne, Technology Director at East Haven Connecticut Public School District. "When I walk the hallways, I see Chromebooks in the hands of teachers all over the district. AccessNow gives teachers the versatility to manage their class more effectively."
"Extending the reach of Chromebooks to mission-critical PowerSchool Gradebook is another example of AccessNow extending the capabilities of a K-12 school district's investments in IT infrastructure and software investments," said Joshua Behar, President and CEO of Ericom Software. "We will continue to work toward helping K-12 school districts deliver a progressive learning environment for students and teachers as well as parents, administrators and IT personnel."
