eSchoolView helps make world a little smaller for high school students
COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Students from Licking Heights Local Schools will travel across the globe to their sister school in China thanks in part to eSchoolView.
The district's website developer and host pledged a $1,000 gift as part of its Investing in Our Future program. eSchoolView gives resources to causes that help the advancement of education or school community.
In fact, the company is currently reviewing applications for its annual scholarship program through which it will give $15,000 to college-bound high school seniors. Winners will be announced within the week.
Nine Licking Heights High School students -- out of only 300 in the nation -- were selected to participate in the two-week Chinese Bridge Summer Camp in July. They will study the language, participate in cultural activities (paper cutting, martial arts, tea ceremonies) and visit with Chinese students in their homes.
"It's an honor to be able to support such a valuable opportunity," Rob O'Leary, executive director of eSchoolView said. "These students are playing an important role in creating a sister Chinese school for their local community and broadening educational options in Licking Heights."
eSchoolView's contribution will be applied toward costs not covered by Hanban and Confucius Institutes sponsoring the trip, such as airfare, visas and international medical insurance.
Licking Heights will expand its Mandarin Chinese course offerings over the next two years with the addition of levels 4 and 5 (Advanced Placement). The district piloted the language in early 2012 and currently serves 302 students in grades 7-12 with two district-employed teachers and one visiting instructor.
eSchooView's broad-based Investing in Our Future initiative includes sponsoring luncheons, seminars and functions hosted by educational organizations across the country. The company also also donates custom design, hosting services and client support for election-related websites where laws prohibit the use of taxpayer dollars.
Licking Heights contracted with eSchoolView more than three years ago to overhaul its website. Heights is a high-performing school district that uses its site to communicate and engage with the greater community though an easy-to-use content management system.
