Esys and 3M Finalists for PACE Award
Recognizes innovation that revolutionizes OEM wheel-balancing operations
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Nov. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Esys Automation, a leading innovator of full service automation and software solutions for manufacturers, and 3M, a technology company known for innovation, have announced their selection as finalists for the prestigious PACE Award. The Automotive News' PACE Award honors superior innovation, technological advancement and business performance among automotive suppliers. This prestigious award, now in its eighteenth year, is recognized around the world as the industry benchmark for innovation. The joint submission by Esys and 3M was based on precision wheel balancing attained through automation of installing 3M™ Wheel Weights using the AutoW8t™ equipment.
AutoW8t is Esys Automation's patent-pending technology for dispensing, cutting and robotic application of 3M's new adhesive wheel weight product. Together, the two companies helped initiate a leap forward in tire and wheel assembly technology, dramatically improving the speed, quality and cost of the OEM high-speed tire balancing processes. This innovation has made wheel balancing easier and faster than ever, while reducing inventory and freeing up valuable manufacturing floor space. The companies' entry is one of five finalists in the Manufacturing Process Category.
"We're very pleased to be considered for what is widely regarded as the most coveted award in the automotive industry," said Chris Marcus, Esys Automation CEO, "and the opportunity to partner with 3M on such a unique innovation was invaluable."
Greg Piserchia, U.S. sales and marketing director, 3M Automotive Division, stated, "We are thrilled to be finalists with Esys for this prestigious award, and we are excited about presenting our product and production automation innovations to the judging panel for consideration."
The PACE Awards are announced in April, after an extensive judging process that includes site visits and customer references.
