European Scholar Joins The Wende Museum As Chief Curator
CULVER CITY, Calif., Dec. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wende Museum is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Joes Segal, distinguished European scholar on art and politics, the Cold War era and German cultural history, who has joined the staff as Chief Curator to supervise curatorial efforts, including educational programming and publications.
On leave for one year from Utrecht University, where he is Assistant Professor of History, Dr. Segal has been special projects advisor to the Museum since 2009 and is one of the contributors to Beyond the Wall, Art and Artifacts from the GDR, the new TASCHEN encyclopedia from Wende's East German holdings.
Segal completed his PhD in 1997 at the University of Amsterdam, Huizinga Institute for Cultural History. He has lectured internationally, published widely and received numerous grants including the DAAD, Grotius Scholarship and Fulbright Senior Research. He was twice guest professor in history at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Segal is the editor of the open-access International Journal of History, Culture and Modernity and was co-edited Divided Dreamworlds? The Cultural Cold War in East and West (Amsterdam: Amsterdam University Press, 2012).
