Events in 18 States to Mark Tenth Anniversary of $1.35 Trillion Bush Tax Cut
JUNE 7, 2001-JUNE 7, 2011: A DECADE OF RECKONING
WASHINGTON, June 3, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- USAction affiliates and partners in 18 states will hold protests, press conferences and other events next week to mark ten years of tax cuts for the super-rich and cuts in services for the rest of America.
"Enough is enough," said Alan Charney, USAction policy and strategic director. "Our economy is in tatters and the middle class is disappearing. Yet some in Congress are at it again. They want to give even larger tax cuts to corporations and the super rich while destroying Medicare and Medicaid and other vital services that we depend on."
Events will take place beginning Tuesday, June 7, in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Examples of next week's events:
In Charleston, West Virginia, Citizen Action Group is organizing, "Let them eat cupcakes: A rally for the really, really rich." The June 7 "bake sale" will raise funds for Medicare, Medicaid and the other programs that help working Americans.
In Fredericksburg, Virginia, Organizing will hold a "Down the Drain" event, representing the valuable capital the Bush tax cuts have flushed down the drain. The event will take place in front of the Fredericksburg Public Library noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday.
In Medford, Oregon, Action will hold an "Axe The Bush Tax Giveaways" event at noon Tuesday on the Vogel Plaza. And in Boise, United Action for Idaho will hold a protest march around the state capitol Tuesday to mark the tenth anniversary.
USAction is a federation of 24 state affiliates and partners that organize for a more just America. With our state partners, we build broad coalitions to win progressive campaigns that enrich people's lives.
