The survey of nearly 3,000 U.S. coffee drinkers found that caffeine sensitivity varies dramatically by age, gender, and genetics. Younger adults (ages 18-24) reported jitters at nearly five times the rate of those over 65, while over 40% of jitter-prone consumers said they were curious enough to take a DNA test to learn whether their genes were to blame.

The findings are backed by decades of research, including NIH-backed studies, showing that certain variations in the CYP1A2 gene (that about 50% of people were found to have) slow caffeine metabolism, causing its stimulating effects to last longer.
