Excellent Schools Detroit Puts Families First With Launch Of Enrollment Website
"Enroll Detroit" offers Families Access to a Simplified School Application, Information and Enrollment Assistance
DETROIT, March 30, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Finding a kindergarten or 9th grade seat for 2016-2017 in Detroit will get a little easier, more efficient and definitely more transparent this Friday. That's when Excellent Schools Detroit (ESD) is launching its simplified, coordinated enrollment website, and six EdCenters to serve Detroit families.

Enroll Detroit establishes a service to support families in navigating and applying to participating Detroit schools. With a single, common enrollment calendar, application, and process for all schools in Detroit, this tool will facilitate school choice and increase enrollment stability, while ensuring transparency and fairness.
Enroll Detroit will launch on April 1st, to support student enrollment for the 2016-2017 academic year. Traditional as well as charter schools in Detroit have already signed on to be a part of the initiative to provide parents with a simplified enrollment process. From April 1st – April 30th, Enroll Detroit will accept applications for incoming Kindergarten and 9th graders and run a common lottery in May. For all other grades, admission will be based on seat availability and families can visit an EdCenter to inquire about placements for 2016-2017
Enroll Detroit will facilitate school choice and ensure fairness by solving the current issue of complexity of school enrollment for Detroit families, which requires that families find their way through multiple options while navigating more than 50 different enrollment calendars, applications, and processes.
Excellent Schools Detroit's ultimate goal is to provide stability for families and schools and improve the quality of education for all kids in Detroit. ESD is now operating six Enroll Detroit EdCenters to better assist families with navigating their school choices, applications, and enrollment processes.
In a city with more than 230 schools, Detroit parents have unprecedented and often confusing choices. However, without cooperation among schools, parents face a confusing array of applications and requirements for enrollment. A simplified enrollment process for all Detroit schools will help offset these challenges and ensure fairness.
