National Family Caregivers Month highlights the importance of respite, shared responsibility and early support
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Nov. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- During National Family Caregivers Month, Executive Home Care, a leading in-home care service provider, is encouraging families to create care plans that support both the person receiving care and the family caregiver.
Observed each November, National Family Caregivers Month recognizes the millions of family members and friends who provide unpaid care. Caregivers often manage transportation, meals, medication reminders, personal care, household tasks and appointments while balancing their jobs, families and responsibilities.
"Family caregivers often take on responsibilities gradually, so they may not realize how much they are carrying until they are exhausted," said Jeanette Weinz, brand president of Executive Home Care. "Asking for help is not stepping away from a loved one. It is a practical way to make care more sustainable for everyone."
Executive Home Care encourages families to discuss support early and consider four questions:
- Which daily tasks create the most stress or take the most time?
- Who can share responsibilities, and what professional support is available?
- When will the caregiver have protected time to rest, attend appointments or address personal needs?
- What changes would signal that the current care plan is no longer enough?
Signs of caregiver strain can include difficulty sleeping, irritability, isolation, missed medical appointments and feeling overwhelmed. Families do not have to wait for a crisis to seek help. Even a few scheduled hours of in-home care each week can provide respite and assistance with personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping and daily routines.
"A strong care plan should be clear about who is doing what and should include backup support," Weinz said. "When caregivers have time to recharge, they are better able to be present as a spouse, daughter, son or friend."
Executive Home Care works with families to develop flexible in-home care plans based on individual needs, preferences and schedules. Professional support can be adjusted as needs change.
