The Teradata Unified Data Architecture, which was previously announced, brings together Teradata, Teradata Aster, and Hadoop technology as well as best-of-breed partner tools, to create a cohesive architecture. This new best-of-breed architecture makes Teradata the first vendor to provide a truly comprehensive framework to handle all types of data and any analytic techniques.

The combination of InfiniBand hardware and Teradata BYNET®V5 software offers customers a best-of-breed private network solution with breakthrough scaling and the fastest, most robust communication. BYNET software, field proven in thousands of massive parallel processing (MPP) systems, is Teradata's secret sauce that provides on-the-fly, in-query data sorting, unique point-to-point, and broadcast communication functions. In addition, it intelligently links the processing units of the Unified Data Architecture to enhance performance. BYNET maximizes data movement across dual networks, leverages network fail-over capability for full availability, and easily scales to over 2,000 parallel processing units – enabling up to 61 petabytes of data in the Teradata Enterprise Data Warehouse.

Within the Unified Data Architecture, the new Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse 6700 platform leverages the fabric-based computing benefits of BYNET on InfiniBand and offers differentiated, market-leading analytic capabilities.

Operating expense reduction –The boost in Teradata system performance enables customers to do the same data warehouse work using up to 50 percent less energy as compared to the Teradata platform of two years ago.
