CHICAGO, Nov. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Resurrection of Mount Carmel High School: A Chicago Icon from Ashes to Grace (Windy City Publishers) is a coming-of-age memoir of an awkward teen, a dysfunctional family, and a troubled high school football team. Whether you are a fan of high school sports, nostalgic for the '70s and '80s, or a pushover for the underdog, you will be immersed in a boy's life growing up on Chicago's Southside in the 1970s: a time when bullying and hazing were accepted on and off the gridiron.
Attending Mount Carmel High School, his father's alma mater and a powerhouse in Illinois high school football, gives Mark the chance to prove himself. He endures rough treatment and abuse at the hands of the team's upperclassmen. But he has grown up with abusive, alcoholic parents; he knows first-hand that to succeed you must have faith, persevere, work hard, and ultimately, break the chain of abuse. Mark defies the odds to prove himself a leader, sparking the Mount Carmel High School football team to life and building a program that made history.
Mark Bornholdt taught high school mathematics and coached football for five years in Chicago and, later, nine years in the San Francisco Bay area. He has worked in medical device and pharmaceutical sales since 1999. Bornholdt currently resides in Oakland Hills, California, with his wife of twenty years, Linda; his fifteen-year-old daughter, Juliet; their dog, Lucy; and their two cats, Rocket and Duke. The Resurrection of Mount Carmel High School is his first book.
