Falcon Ridge Farm Announces New Expansions for 2016 Growing Season
High Tunnel Farming Allows for Full Year Growing Season
TOONE, Tenn., Feb. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Fruits and vegetables have never been easier to find locally; Falcon Ridge Farm's recent greenhouse expansion uses new growing methods to provide a bountiful harvest year round. High tunnel greenhouses are designed to allow for easier modulation of interior temperatures and protection from the elements while still growing the plants in the farm's fertile soil. This method can provide a full year harvest season, something that is very uncommon in Tennessee.

"We are very excited about the potential for our early and late crops like lettuce, beets, greens, kale and others that will be available in early spring, late fall and winter in addition to our popular summer crops," says farm owner Bart Gilmer.
Falcon Ridge is already well known for its commitment to serving the local community and providing both fruits and vegetables via an innovative and popular CSA program. The latest additions allow the farm to expand the offerings available and provide a greater variety of locally sourced produce that travels from farm to consumer in a single day.
The innovative tunnel style greenhouses allow the farm to provide CSA members with an abundant selection of produce on a regular basis. Weekly CSA boxes are available in a variety of sizes and feature fresh vegetables and fruit, picked at the peak of freshness and delivered within a day or so of harvest. In contrast, typical supermarket produce may be weeks old before it reaches the consumer. CSA programs like the one provided by Falcon Ridge promote healthy living and wellness and allow families convenient access to local fresh produce.
Thanks in part to a grant from the Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program, Falcon Ridge Farm was able to build these new high tunnel style greenhouses and a heated greenhouse that is used for seed starting.
"Starting our crops from seeds gives us the ability to have the varieties that we and our customers want, when we need them and in the quantities that we need them in. We also enjoy the fact that we take care of each vegetable from a seed all the way to the consumer without the need for any 'middle men.'"

Limited CSA spaces are available for the expanded 2016 growing season, which is expected to include buyer favorites like tomatoes, sweet corn, watermelon and other summer and spring favorites. The CSA has sold out in previous years and a waitlist program is available; fresh produce is available at the farm as well.
