Family Dollar Celebrates 7,000th Store Grand Opening in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn., Aug. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Family Dollar, one of the fastest-growing discount retail chains in the country, continues to expand its footprint across the United States. Today the store is extending its commitment to the communities of its customers and their families with the grand opening of its 7,000th store in Memphis, Tennessee and a special seven thousand dollar donation to the local Mid-South Food Bank.

Dedicated to being a value-priced, one-stop-shopping destination, the brick and mortar Family Dollar introduced a fresh design constructed with green elements and a spacious layout for an easy, yet optimal shopping experience.  Complete with a stock of household, hot-priced offerings, the 7,000th store opened its doors today with a grand opening celebration.  

The festivities kicked off this morning, with a special ribbon cutting ceremony led by Family Dollar Chairman and CEO Howard Levine. To commemorate the opening of its 7,000th store in Memphis, Family Dollar completed the celebration with the $7,000 donation to the Mid-South Food Bank, along with cans of food donated by members of the local community.  Following the presentation, families and attendees were treated to Family Dollar merchandise specials, deals, and complimentary prizes, along with a Coca-Cola Refreshment Experience featuring games, product samples, and light catering.

To give Memphis residents the opportunity to participate in the activities and give back, the retailer held a special promotion rooted in local cause, prior to grand opening day.  On August 10, Family Dollar offered an exclusive shopping event for all Memphis residents.  For each canned food donation, the retailer awarded high-value coupons to store visitors and donors throughout the day, empowering customers to give back to the local community.
