Family Dollar Expands to California Market

MATTHEWS, N.C., Nov. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Family Dollar, one of the fastest-growing discount retail chains in the country, continues to expand its footprint across the United States with the announcement of its entry into California and grand opening of four stores in San Bernardino County. Today, the retailer officially marks its entrance into "The Golden State" with four new Family Dollar locations in the cities of Ontario, Fontana, Rialto, and Riverside.

In celebration of Family Dollar's entry into California, the retailer hosted a Grand Opening Celebration at the Ontario store at Ontario Plaza, 980 N. Mountain Ave. Ontario, CA, complete with a special ribbon cutting and fun activities and prizes for the entire family to enjoy.

The festivities officially kicked off this morning with a community ribbon cutting ceremony at Family Dollar.  As a special thank you to welcoming Family Dollar to California, the retailer presented a five thousand dollar check to Ontario's Second Harvest Food Bank and encouraged local attendees to come to the Grand Opening event with a canned good item donation.  Each of the four California-based stores will continue to accept canned food in stores for the Second Harvest Food Bank through Sunday, November 20.  Following the presentation and official ceremony, Family Dollar had a day of family fun with Family Dollar giveaways, complimentary prizes by Coca Cola, and entertainment from Ontario's local KOLA-FM radio station.

Family Dollar plans to further its footprint in California by opening additional store locations within the next year, creating hundreds of jobs for citizens of the state.
