DURHAM, N.C., Dec. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- James Scott Farrin attorneys Matthew Healey and Michael Roessler were recently certified by the North Carolina State Bar as board-certified specialists in workers' compensation law.
Board certification is the highest level of specialization lawyers are able to achieve in the legal industry in North Carolina. Less than 1 percent of lawyers licensed in NC are board certified workers' compensation specialists, according to figures from the North Carolina State Bar*.
In fact, of the more than 29,000 North Carolina licensed attorneys, only 148 are board-certified specialists in workers' compensation law*. Eight of them practice at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin.
To be certified as a workers' compensation specialist, a lawyer must meet numerous standards for inclusion. They must have been in practice for at least five years, devote a significant part of their practice to workers' comp, be favorably evaluated by other lawyers and/or judges, and pass a lengthy written exam in the area of workers' compensation law.
The certification program helps those seeking legal counsel to select lawyers by identifying those who have demonstrated special knowledge, skill, and proficiency in certain areas of law. These lawyers are required to attend a certain number of continuing legal education seminars in their field, which allows them to stay up to date on legal changes.
Healey has over 16 years of experience practicing workers' compensation law and Roessler more than seven.
*Figures from the North Carolina State Bar are as of December 2018.
