CHARLOTTE, N.C. and CHARLESTON, S.C., March 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Victoria Cullinan Strayhorn has been selected as an emerging designer to compete in Lexus Charleston Fashion Week®, one of the leading fashion weeks in the United States. The event from March 14 - 18 will feature runway shows by 16 competing designers, selected from a field of 600 applicants.
The designer's brand, Victoria Cullinan, LLC, is known for its fresh and creative design aesthetic which appeals to women of all ages. Her past work includes unique collections as well as custom couture work for private clients.
For Lexus Charleston Fashion Week, her inspiration comes from the Japanese art form called kintsugi, which features broken ceramics repaired with gold to form new pieces. "I love the concept of taking something broken and transforming it into something newly whole and beautiful," she says. Her collection at Charleston Fashion Week will feature styling and embellishments to mimic the look of kintsugi.
Victoria Cullinan worked for a variety of fashion houses in New York, including Calvin Klein and Rebecca Taylor, before launching the Victoria Cullinan brand in Charlotte, N.C. She is a past winner of the prestigious YMA CFDA Competition and the Cotton Inc. Design Competition.
The designer creates clothing for commercial and private clients throughout the Southeast. Exposed to international travel from an early age, her interest and appreciation for different cultures, textiles, clothing and adornments have led her to pursue fabric painting, dyeing and hand beading to enhance her designs.
She found her calling early in life. As a young dancer, she enjoyed sketching costumes for ballerinas, imagining combinations of colors and textures to highlight the dance form. That sketching soon expanded to designing clothes for herself, ultimately shaping her career interest in fashion design. She is a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design.
