Fast Company Names Blue Cross Blue Shield Association Among World's Most Innovative Organizations For Data Science
Magazine lauds industry-leading data capability Blue Cross Blue Shield Axis(SM)
CHICAGO, Feb. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Fast Company magazine named the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) among the world's most innovative organizations in data science for Blue Cross Blue Shield AxisSM (BCBS Axis), an industry-leading data capability that is unprecedented in scope and scale.
BCBSA ranked 9th among the Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Data Science as part of the magazine's 2016 Most Innovative Companies issue, which honors leading enterprises and rising newcomers that exemplify the best in nimble business and impactful innovation.
BCBSA announced in September the collective commitment of all 36 independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) companies to contribute comprehensive data on health care quality and costs to BCBS Axis. The data include more than 2.3 billion procedures conducted annually from more than 20,000 health care facilities and 540,000 physicians. Covering 1 in 3 Americans, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield System is uniquely positioned to provide insights and intelligence on health care quality and cost at the local, regional and national levels by drawing on data from a network that includes more than 92 percent of physicians and 96 percent of hospitals nationwide.
