FCC Authorizes Local Number Portability Administrator Contract Negotiations with iconectiv to Begin

PISCATAWAY, N.J., March 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Telcordia Technologies, Inc., D/B/A iconectiv, the world leader in number portability services, announced today that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has adopted an order instructing the North American Portability Management LLC (NAPM) to initiate contract negotiations with iconectiv to serve as the new national Local Number Portability Administrator (LNPA) for all seven of the U.S. Number Portability Administration Center (NPAC) regions.

iconectiv was selected by the NANC as the new LNPA after a long and thorough process conducted by the FCC, NANC and the NAPM, which included extensive commentary and engagement with the public, the telecommunications industry and state, local and federal law enforcement agencies.

Following execution of a contract and transition, as the new LNPA, iconectiv will manage the Number Portability Administration Center / Service Management System (NPAC/SMS). The NPAC/SMS is the central database that supports the secure and efficient porting or transfer of telephone numbers to enable customers to keep their telephone numbers when switching communications service providers. More than 2,000 wireless, wireline, VoIP and cable service providers and dozens of law enforcement agencies in the United States and Puerto Rico depend on this central common and authoritative database for mission-critical numbering services.
