FDB Announces First MCP Server for AI Clinical Decision Support and Other Medication Workflow Automation

MCP is an emerging industry standard that defines a framework to integrate AI systems with trusted knowledge resources, tools, and specialized agents. FDB's new MCP server is expected to be the first of its kind designed specifically to support clinical decision support (CDS) while enabling broader capabilities that FDB can deliver including prescription routing, medication reconciliation, and medication order structuring often desired by agent-based applications across healthcare settings. The company is ready for pilot integrations now and is targeting early 2026 for broader availability of its MCP server and tools.

FDB is also working with early adopters of its MCP server on prototype applications, including a prescription automation agent. The agent can automatically pre-populate codified medication orders based on discussions during patient encounters. Instead of spending valuable time re-entering prescriptions manually, physicians can simply review, confirm, or adjust the suggested orders within their EMR, significantly reducing administrative burden and helping them stay more focused on patient care.
