Ferris Coffee & Nut Announces Grand Opening of New Downtown Grand Rapids Location
Trust Building Marks Second Coffee Shop Location for Regional Coffee Roaster
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Sept. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Ferris Coffee & Nut Company, a leading Michigan coffee roaster, today announced it will officially open its new coffee shop in downtown Grand Rapids located in the Trust Building at 40 Pearl Street on Thursday, September 22 from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
The new shop will feature specialty coffees and baked goods offered from Ferris Coffee's flagship location on Winter Avenue in Grand Rapids. In addition, the location will eventually serve a variety of small plates including charcuterie, appetizers, and other bar snacks. Ferris Coffee also plans to offer craft beer and wine to customers from the downtown shop.
Opening this new location plays a key role in Ferris' growth strategy by expanding our retail footprint and re-introducing our brand to the greater downtown community," said David VanTongeren, Director of Retail for Ferris Coffee. "Coffee shops are indicative of a healthy neighborhood and our team is excited to be in the historical space and to serve our coffee in a fast-paced, professional environment. The smaller shop lends itself to a more intimate atmosphere, while the corner exposure continues to activate pedestrian-friendly development in downtown Grand Rapids."
The new coffee shop will serve customers from one of the most historic buildings in Grand Rapids. Embracing the historic nature of the Trust Building, Ferris Coffee stayed true to the building's character through the renovation, which included adding a custom exterior door in the original location of the entrance during the 1900s. The total space of the shop will be approximately 1300 sq. ft. located in the northwest corner on the first floor of the building.
Along with a team of 9 employees, Ferris Coffee has tapped Jessica Coles to serve as general manager for the newest location. Coles received a degree in hospitality tourism management, emphasizing in food and beverage, from Grand Valley State University and has nearly 10 years of experience in the coffee industry.
The downtown store will kick off right in line with ArtPrize with a schedule of 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday – Friday and 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Saturday.
