FIASI and Fordham Launch 7th Annual Global Student Research Competition on Sustainable Finance in Fixed Income
Research on AI infrastructure financing, climate adaptation and transition finance encouraged; awards of up to $5,000 and February 8, 2027 submission deadline
NEW YORK, Oct. 20, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Fixed Income Analysts Society (FIASI), in collaboration with Fordham University's Center for Research in Contemporary Finance and O'Shea Center for Credit Analysis and Investment, today announced the launch of the 7th Annual FIASI–Gabelli School Student Research Competition. Undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students worldwide are invited to submit original research examining original research on investing and innovation in sustainable finance in fixed income and related markets.
The competition highlights the importance of integrating financially material Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors into fixed income investing and related markets, explores how new technologies can address sustainability challenges facing businesses and governments, and encourages dialogue among students, academics and practitioners.
An area of interest this year is the intersection of artificial intelligence, data center infrastructure and fixed income markets through a sustainability lens, including financing AI and data center buildouts. Research on transition finance as well as climate adaptation and resilience financing continue to be important topics for consideration. Submissions should stress practical applications.
Awards and Recognition
Winning and runner-up papers will be evaluated in separate undergraduate and postgraduate pools and will be eligible for award grants of up to $5,000. Selected researchers will be recognized at FIASI's Sustainable Finance in Fixed Income conference in New York City on April 27, 2027. Receipt of a grant does not preclude subsequent journal publication.
Eligibility and Submission Requirements
Full-time and part-time students enrolled in business, economics and related programs are eligible. Submissions may include PhD dissertations, master's theses, undergraduate honors theses and comparable research, including student–faculty co-authored papers.
Each submission must include a cover page with the paper title, author names, contact information and past or present corporate affiliations; an abstract of no more than 150 words; a paper of no more than 60 pages; and a résumé for each researcher. Research must represent the student's own analysis and include a disclaimer that it is unconnected to any current or previous employer.
A committee of academics, FIASI representatives and fixed income practitioners will evaluate submissions based on originality, relevance and methodology.
Submission deadline: Monday, February 8, 2027. Send papers to Joanna Kondratowicz at [email protected]. Decisions will be made before April 27, 2027.
The competition is co-funded by FIASI and Fordham University's Gabelli School of Business. For additional competition information, visit: https://fiasi.org/sustainable-finance/student-research-competition-pr/
