Field Announced For Kraft Nabisco Legends Junior Challenge
STUDIO CITY, Calif., March 27, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The field for the 2013 Kraft Nabisco Legends Junior Challenge has been released, the Kraft Nabisco Championship and SCGA Youth on Course announced today. Thirty Southland junior girls have been selected to compete for a spot in the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the LPGA's first major of the year, while being mentored by past KNC champions and LPGA golf legends.
In a change of format from last year's inaugural event, the LPGA legends in the field will act as team captains, each mentoring and coaching a team of three girls throughout the event. Unlike last year when the legends themselves golfed, this year the emphasis will be on strengthening the mentoring experience.
"Allowing the legends to focus on the juniors instead of their own game is a great way for them to really form strong bonds with the girls participating," said Kevin Gigax, executive director of SCGA Youth on Course, which led the junior selection committee and will provide tournament support for the event. "This is such an incredible opportunity for 30 girls to spend time with the women they've admired for years, and we want to give them full advantage of the time they will have together."
Among the legends participating are KNC icon Amy Alcott, Golf Channel commentator Dottie Pepper and World Golf Hall of Fame member Pat Bradley. The junior field is highlighted by 2011 U.S. Women's Open participant Gabby Then, 2012 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship semifinalist Alice Jeong and 2012 U.S. Girls Junior Championship quarterfinalist Lauren Diaz-Yi.

About the Kraft Nabisco Championship
The Kraft Nabisco Championship is golf's first major and one of the LPGA Tour's most prestigious events. Founded in 1972 by David Foster and Dinah Shore, the Kraft Nabisco Championship earned the designation as a major tournament in 1983. Contested at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., since its inception, the Championship holds the distinction of being the second oldest golf tournament continuously held at the same course. For many, the event is most distinguished by one of golf's most beloved traditions: the champion's leap into Poppie's Pond, located adjacent to the 18th green. In 1988, the first champion's leap into Poppie's Pond was taken by Amy Alcott, and since has become one of the most anticipated and memorable traditions in golf.
