FireFlower Alternative Energy and Janco Development Complete Solar Development
PLYMOUTH, Mass., April 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Local company, FireFlower Alternative Energy, has partnered with Janco Development to build a sizeable rooftop solar array at Cordage Commerce Center atop one of its historic mill buildings located at 10 Cordage Park Circle in Plymouth. The solar array covers approximately 58,000 square feet of rooftop and has a capacity of 448 kilowatts. It will create approximately 540,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, enough power to offset approximately 35% of the annual electricity consumption on site.
Janco enlisted the expertise of FireFlower Alternative Energy to research, design, and implement construction of the project. Entrepreneur Kathleen C. Doyle founded FireFlower Alternative Energy in 2008. Ms. Doyle has extensive expertise in solar, wind, and biofuel development, combined with over 20 years' experience in commercial real estate. A business leader with a passion for sustainable living, Ms. Doyle has fueled her own vehicle with waste vegetable oil, and in order to be able to confirm for clients the promise and effectiveness of solar, a photovoltaic (PV) system has been powering all of the electric demand at her family's home for over 8 years.

Large-scale, roof-mounted solar installations such as this benefit the environment by providing clean, renewable power at no additional cost to the building occupant, while helping the property owner's bottom line. A system of this size will generate over 12,000,000 kilowatt hours (kWhs) over its lifetime of 25 years. That is equal to the carbon sequestered by planting 8,465 acres of forests in one year, will avoid the burning of 20,704 barrels of oil, and will avoid greenhouse gas emissions from 21,432,546 miles driven by an average passenger vehicle.

The Cordage Park solar array is net metered and interconnected to the grid, generating renewable power with an estimated annual market value of over $230,000. Additionally, the sale of Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs), created by the state to help incentivize solar development in Massachusetts, will generate income to help finance the system for Janco Development.
