Walton as the guest preacher at the church's 11 a.m. traditional worship service. Rev. Dr. Walton is a social ethicist and scholar of American religions who has been featured in numerous media outlets including the New York Times, CNN and the BBC.

Walton, who earned his Ph.D. and master of divinity degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary, is the Plummer Professor of Christian Morals at Harvard University, the Pusey Minister in Harvard's Memorial Church and the professor of religion and society on the faculty of the divinity school. He has been published in scholarly journals, including Religion and American Culture: A Journal of Interpretation and Pneuma: The Journal of the Society for Pentecostal Studies, and he has published a book titled, "Watch This! The Ethics and Aesthetics of Black Televangelism."
The message for Rev. Dr. Walton's sermon for the 11 a.m. traditional service at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale, which is titled "Be Wary of Praise Reports," will be based on Biblical text from Luke 4: 14-21.
Rev. Dr. Russ Ritchel will be delivering the sermon at the church's 8:30 a.m. traditional and 9:30 a.m. contemporary worship services.
