First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale's Annual Angel Tree Tradition Brings Christmas Joy to 250 Children
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Dec. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Members of the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale are embracing the Christmas spirit once again this year as they participate in the annual Angel Tree project. For this annual church tradition, church members act as "angels" for hundreds of children whose parents are incarcerated in the Broward County Jail system by providing them with a Christmas gift on behalf of their parent.

The Angel Tree project at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale begins in early December when the church sets up their Angel Christmas tree with angel tag decorations that bear the names of the children assigned by the church's Prison Ministry. Individuals claim a tag from the tree, and within a week, they return that tag with a gift of a toy and an article of clothing, not to exceed $25 in cost.
"The church conducts weekly prison fellowships throughout the year, so it is extremely special now, at the end of the year, to do something for the children who probably haven't seen their parents in months or even years," said Nancy Anderson, an Angel Tree coordinator at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale. "Since the project began in 2007, we've been able to provide Christmas gifts to more than 3,000 children, and we are happy to be able to bring some Christmas joy to 250 more children this year."
This year's Angel Tree project culminates in a festive Christmas party on Sunday, December 14, 2014 from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the church where the children will receive their gifts, enjoy food, crafts, entertainment and worship, and take photos with Santa and write letters to send to their parents.
